Overview

As a Junior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design, development, and maintenance of our data infrastructure and systems. You will work closely with our data team and software team to ensure the smooth flow of data replication. Furthermore, you will assist in implementing data pipelines and contribute to building a robust data ecosystem that supports multiple data science and analytics products. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to learn and grow in the field of data engineering while contributing to the success of a thriving retail organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data team manager to design and develop data pipelines and ETL processes, ensuring data is efficiently extracted, transformed, and loaded from various sources into our data lake.
  • Assist in the maintenance and improvement of our data infrastructure to ensure its scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Help build and maintain data models and schemas to support data analytics and reporting needs.
  • Participate in data quality assurance activities, including data validation, cleansing, and enrichment.
  • Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting data pipeline issues and perform necessary debugging and optimizations.
  • Exposure and uses various cloud-based services such as GCP, AWS and Aliyun.
  • Work closely with business users in understanding business data needs and propose relevant data pipelines with futureproofing in mind.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in data engineering and propose innovative solutions to enhance our data capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, actuarial science, data science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Python and SQL is a must.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as R and JavaScript would be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of data concepts, database systems, data ETL processes, and integration techniques.
  • Knowledge in scheduler services such as Airflow, Dagster and Cronjob
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively communicate technical concepts.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools in the data engineering space.
  • Prior experience or internships in data engineering or related roles is a plus but not mandatory.
